History
This group of veteran players has been performing together around Vancouver for almost two years. Three of the members of the band have been major figures with The Pacific Bluegrass and Heritage Society since its inception in 1981.
False Creek serves up a solid traditional bluegrass style, spiced with a touch of Western Swing. Their repertoire includes bluegrass classics from Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, and Jimmy Martin as well as originals and lots of sizzling instrumentals.
False Creek members are:
Sue Malcolm – vocals, rhythm guitar
Garry Stevenson – vocals, lead guitar, mandolin
Jay Buckwold – banjo, vocals
Tyler Carson - fiddle
Paul Bergman – bass
The members of False Creek are all busy with many projects; Jay Buckwold is well known as the director of the BC Bluegrass Workshop; Garry Stevenson is a long-standing member of the popular band Five On A String; Sue Malcolm has helped hundreds of beginner bluegrassers get started with the Slow Pitch Jam, and performs in elementary schools with her band The Buddy System; Paul Bergman is a member of The Buddy System, Slow Drag, Great Northern and countless jazz groups as a freelancer; and the newest member Tyler Carson has been wowing audiences and inspiring students since he migrated from Vancouver Island a few months ago.
